Sheridan athletes won state titles in five events at the Class 5A state track meet on Thursday at Lake Hamilton. Overall, the Sheridan girls’ track team finished fourth and the Yellowjacket boys were sixth.
In girls’ action, Sheridan freshman Skylar Sterritt placed first in the 100-meter dash in 12.36 and also won the 200-meters in 25.53. Sterritt was second in the high jump, clearing 5’4”, and was sixth in the long jump with a leap of 17-00.5 feet.
For the Yellowjacket boys, Aaron Webb won the 200-meters in 21.66, a new school record breaking his own mark he set earlier this year. Webb was third in the 100 meters in 10.75 seconds.
The Sheridan boys’ 4x100 relay team placed first in a school-record time of 42.44. The old record was 42.98. The 4x100 team members are Webb, Isaiah Owens, Nathan Uptagrafft and Ahmad Anderson.
SHS senior Sophie Allen won her third consecutive Class 5A state championship in the pole vault to go along with two indoor titles. Allen cleared a career-best 12’0”. Allen also finished in the top 10 in triple jump and discus.
For the girls, Julie Lieu was fourth in the discus with a throw of 100’11”. Macy Moring was fourth in the 100-meter hurdles in 16.32. Sheridan’s 4x100 team was sixth, finishing in 51.12 seconds. The 4x800 team was 13th. Bella Norman was 12th in the 800-meter run in 2:38.56.
For the boys, Uptagrafft was second in the 300-meter hurdles in 40.71. Uptagrafft finished 10th in the 110 hurdles. Hunter Sredin was 13th in the 110 hurdles. Isaiah Owens was ninth in the 200-meters in 22.49. The Yellowjackets’ 4x400 team was third in 3:25.82 and also broke the school record. The previous record was 3:27.90 set in 1989.Team members are Webb, Owens, Uptagrafft and Ethan Anderton.
