With summer upon us, we all want to keep children healthy while school is out. The Sheridan School District will provide free meals to children beginning the week of June 6 continuing through June 30. Unfortunately, a federal waiver allowing the free meals will expire June 30, though other privately-funded options remain through alternative sources.

Through the end of June, school meals will be served Monday-Thursday at Sheridan Middle School and East End Middle School from 10:30 a.m.-12 p.m. Students may pick up lunch for that day and breakfast for the following day. There are no income requirements or registration, though children must receive the meals in person and sign a receipt log. Anyone age 18 or younger is eligible.

The Grant County Ministerial Alliance will provide nourishing meals for children with food insecurity throughout the county beginning the week of June 6 until school begins on August 15. They will make weekly deliveries of non-perishable food. If interested, email your name, address and contact information to sheridansfp@gmail.com.

For Saline County students, local food banks near you include Lorance Drive Church of Christ (501-888-1253) and East Union Missionary Baptist Church (501-888-2633). Grace Church (501-888-1195) in East End is also a resource for those with food insecurity. Please contact the respective churches for details.
