Congratulations to Sheridan sophomore running back Isaiah "Zay" Stephens who was named the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette Player of the Week for his performance Friday against undefeated Little Rock Catholic. Stephens piled up 421 yards of total offense and 6 touchdowns. He rushed 28 times for 219 yards and 3 touchdowns, and he caught 10 passes for 202 yards and 3 touchdowns. He became the first player Kevin Kelley has coached to record 200+ yards rushing and 200+ yards receiving in the same game.
Coach Kelley told the Democrat-Gazette, "I think he's the best running back in the state, and I think he's definitely the best sophomore in the state... I'm biased, but with his ability to catch and run out of the backfield and just create plays when it looks like there's nothing, he's unbelievable."
Through seven games, Stephens has 909 rushing yards, 621 receiving yards and 20 touchdowns. According to the Democrat-Gazette, Stephens is tied for second in the state for total touchdowns and leads all non-quarterbacks with 1,530 yards of offense.
Sheridan will be back in action tomorrow night at Marion. Go Jackets! #YJNation

Sheridan's Alternative Learning Academy hosted a "Breakfast at the Academy" event this morning that included an opportunity for some local business and community leaders along with elected officials to visit with several students at the campus and share a morning meal. The visitors also were able to see many of the crafts created by the students that were recently for sale at Timberfest.
Principal Dennis Wolfe concluded the breakfast by presenting a plaque to Jonathan and Bridget Rhodes for their hard work on a recent collaborative project to replace all the old playground equipment at ALA with new equipment. #YJNation #ChooseJoy
The Sheridan School District held a playground dedication ceremony today at the District’s Alternative Learning Academy campus. The new playground equipment is a result of a combined effort of the Sheridan School District, City of Sheridan, and multiple private businesses, organizations and individuals. Funding for the new equipment was through a grant jointly received by the school district and the city, as well as private donations. Now complete, the playground is available for use by the District’s students and is also available for families in the community throughout the year when school is not in session.
Local businesses and individuals who contributed to the project include: Nucor, which donated $10,000 and their employees contributed time for the demolition of old equipment and installation of the new equipment; Josh Kimbrell of Kimbrell Construction who donated time and equipment for the demolition; Jonathan Rhodes of J.R.’s Custom Steel Works who donated time and equipment for the demolition and installation; Mike Biggs who donated his time for demo and installation; Stockton Power Equipment, which donated equipment for demo and installation; Rowland-Stone Services, which donated equipment for the demolition; Mitchell’s Hot Hen Farms, which donated equipment for the demo and installation; Sheridan Masonic Lodge #260, which helped to raise money for the playground; Ace Hardware, which donated bags of concrete for the installation; Tractor Supply, which donated bags of concrete for the installation; Shelby Taylor Trucking donated funds for equipment; and the Grant County Chamber of Commerce has provided support throughout the year as the project progressed.
